Freelancing for CBC isn’t as easy as it used to be, but there are still gigs to be found at the Mother Corp. Here’s what you should look into.

The Canadian Freelance Guild’s Job Bank

Hey! That’s us! The Canadian Freelance Guild or CFG is Canada’s largest community of media freelancers and we run a Job Bank for members. That’s where you’ll find tons of jobs for Canadian freelancers, including gigs at different CBC bureaus and departments. So if you want to write for the CBC, this is a good place to start. Click here to visit the Job Bank.

CBC Life

Does this sound like you?

“From life's little projects to its big questions, CBC Life offers Canadians inspired ideas and conversations that help them live better, including things to eat, make, do, wear, buy and ponder. The main pillars of the vertical are food, culture, style, home, wellness, personal finance, pets, and travel.”

New writers are always welcome in this section! You can learn more about how to pitch CBC Life and what they’re looking for here.

CBC Opinion

When this article was edited in spring 2025, the CBC Opinion section was no longer accepting pitches. You can monitor this page to see if that changes.

CBC Podcasts

CBC Podcasts accepts pitches year round. The bar is high, but they hire freelancers and second producers from other parts of CBC to work on podcasts.

If you’re thinking of pitching a podcast, keep in mind that CBC Podcasts is all about innovation. If your story has already been reported on, you'll need to explain why it's worthy of a podcast. A podcast pitch has to prove that a subject has the legs to keep a listener’s interest for six or ten episodes.

You can find more information about pitching podcast ideas on CBC's radio pitch guide page.

CBC Radio

Does this grab your attention? “We are looking for stories with heart, depth and national and international significance. It may be a regional story which might serve as a microcosm for a bigger issue, one that people are grappling with across the country. We want dramatic stories which may provide a unique perspective on, or bring deeper meaning to, stories currently in the headlines, or perhaps provide a window onto a world, a story we know nothing about.”

If you’d love to work with The Sunday Magazine, The Current, The House, and What On Earth, you can learn more about pitching them here.

If you’d love to pitch IDEAS, you can learn more here.
